2010 Drive-In Super Monster-Rama: Part II

I've already written about last year's big drive-in show in Pennsylvania. That blog gave all the information about the show and the Riverside Drive-In where it was held. If you haven't read that one--and would like to--please click here (2010 Drive-In Super Monster-Rama).

This entry will concentrate on screen images from the first night of the Monster-Rama show on September 10, 2010. I managed to get a lot of photos from the first night to give a good idea of exactly what we saw onscreen that night. Unfortunately, it rained the second night and we had to spend most of the evening inside the car--which means I didn't get nearly as many photographs of everything. Part three will concentrate on the second night. Sorry about the length of this installment. What can I say, it was a long night filled with great entertainment. Abridging the review of the Drive-In Super Monster-Rama would only serve to shortchange its full effect.

So, sit back, relax and check out just what you missed by not going to the 2010 Drive-In Super Monster-Rama! ...And remember, the 2011 edition is coming up on September 9th and 10th--so you get another chance to experience the awesomeness that is a Monster-Rama show! And, also remember that everything you will see below was projected on the Riverside's screen via 35mm film stock. Every movie, trailer, short subject and drive-in ad was film-based--nothing was projected from a DVD.

The crowd arrives, picks out prime spots and mingles before the show

The Riverside Drive-In's huge screen. It will become a whole lot more interesting soon!

The projector--ready for a long night of service!

The show starts off with the National Anthem

And, of course there's those pesky mosquitoes. Better get some...

...PIC!
"A pleasant aroma for you, but NOT for mosquitoes."

"So if you don't want our company ever anywhere, just light PIC and...see what I mean? Bye!"

CHILLY DILLY
(and the Riverside does indeed sell pickles!)

We could have used one of these during night two!

Full-darkness brings the most impressive projector streams

And on to the previews! First up, "It's WILD and WONDERFUL", it's "BEACH PARTY"

Boris Karloff in Roger Corman's "THE TERROR"

Roger Corman's "X, THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES"

Japanese monster classic "FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD"

"RIOT ON SUNSET STRIP"

"ANGELS FROM HELL"

A trailer for tonight's second feature. Vincent Price in...

"THE OBLONG BOX"

Just before the first feature we were treated to the cartoon short
"PASTE MAKES WASTE"

Time for the first feature of the night...

American International Pictures presents Vincent Price and Peter Lorre in...

"THE COMEDY OF TERRORS"

...Also starring Rhubarb, as Cleopatra!

Intermission time!

You gotta love the hot dog jumping into the bun. So suggestive!

Good time to get some snacks!
Not to mention DVDs, posters, books, magazines...

The show goes on with even more movie trailers...

"SUCCUBUS"

"BLOOD DEMON"

"THE SHUTTERED ROOM"

"DE SADE"

"HORROR HOUSE"

"THE HOUSE THAT SCREAMED"

Only one minute until...

SHOWTIME!

Our second feature (for Mature Audiences only) is another AIP film...

"THE OBLONG BOX"

...Which not only stars Vincent Price, but also has Christopher Lee as a "Special Guest Star"!

"CURSE OF THE VAMPIRES"

"FLESH FEAST"
Which may very well have been prepared by...

..."THE MAD BUTCHER"

Boxoffice International Pictures presents "THE GORILLA GANG"

Trailer for "BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW"
(one of the movies from the second night of the Monster-Rama)

The Three Stooges in "ANTS IN THE PANTRY"

The third film of the night
"THE WITCHMAKER"

Trailer for another of the second night's features--
"FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL"

Those windows look awfully familiar. Must be...

"THE AMITYVILLE HORROR"
...Or at least a trailer for it.

Let's lighten things up a bit with a preview of "LOVE AT FIRST BITE"

And a "Special Preview" of "CHALLENGE TO SURVIVE"--Starring...

...An intense William Shatner!
Is there any other kind of William Shatner?

Yep, "CHALLENGE TO SURVIVE"--It's a "Great Family Adventure"!

Shifting gears one more time with "GAS PUMP GIRLS"

And, the fourth and final film of the night (or the early morning as it were)--
"THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN"

And that was night one of the Drive-In Super Monster-Rama 2010! Did you make it all the way through? I have to admit that I was dragging a bit by the last movie. I'm sure plenty of people in the audience fell asleep at some point during the night, but that was undoubtedly due to sheer exhaustion and not boredom or lack of interest. This is the kind of show you almost have to pick out a movie that you wouldn't mind missing (either because you've already seen it or because you're not as interested in it as the others) and purposely take a nap during that one so you can survive the rest of the night/morning!

If you can stand to read/see some more, check out Part 3 to read about the second night of the show! Click here to see it: 2010 Drive-In Super Monster-Rama: Part III. Meanwhile, remember to replace your speaker on the pole before leaving and please drive carefully!
